Comforter & Friend

Did you ever wonder how you train an elephant? The first thing you do is trap one! This is not an easy task, but doable. The second thing is to isolate it from all the other elephants.

You see elephants are very social animals. God has designed them never to be alone. They depend on one another for security, comfort, and peace. Apart from each other, they grow increasingly uneasy until they almost lapse into a state of unconscious stillness. At that point, the trainers come and fill the needs of the herd. They talk, touch, feed, water, and generally fill all the issues that have arisen. Within a short time, the elephant and trainer have bonded. The trainer has replaced all the others in life. You see elephants aren’t designed to be alone.

Neither are you and I. We are supposed to touch and be touched. We are supposed to talk and listen to each other. But right now, for want of a better term, we are separated from the herd. It’s called social distancing. But wait a minute; aren’t we getting back together? Yes and no. No hugging, no touching, keep your distance, wear a mask. Sit apart and act like things are the way they used to be. Well, they aren’t; don’t expect them to be. For the foreseeable future, we are in a partial-normal state.

So, who is going to fill my needs? Moses promised the Israelites, “[God] will never leave you nor forsake you!” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
He will feed you on God’s word as the bread of life. He will give you the living water, that will never leave you dry. And most of all He will touch your heart and soul. Ask Him for His touch. Have you ever asked before? Well, ask now: “Please, God, touch me with Your Holy Spirit. I am separated from my loving companions and I miss them. Be my best friend and Comforter right now.”

And I guarantee that He will. After all, He laid down His life for his friends! That’s you!
